Hair Love – Movie by Matthew A. Cherry. However, before you click to watch this movie, grab the tissues. Almost as soon as the movie begins, I needed them.
Oscar winning Matthew A. Cherry takes you on an emotional journey in this movie short. As a loving Husband/Father and his little girl with big, beautiful, natural hair tackle their first hair-do.
Clocking in under 7 minutes, the Hair Love movie by Matthew A. Cherry gives you a full experience. A heartfelt story of an African American Father and his decisive little girl as they navigate his first time doing her hair.
Cherry, a former athlete and Detroit Lion, stated he has no children but wanted to make a film short to which children could relate and see themselves.
This is definitely my house every Sunday. First, I line them up. Secondly, take all hair request, moisturize and get started. However, the fact that my girls now show me videos of their preferred hairstyles makes it far more relatable. Therefore, Hair Love will be added to the movie rotation in our house.
Lastly, we want to say Well Done! Congratulations. In a world where perceptions of hair can cause a child to not graduate. Consequently, a movie like this is a welcomed addition to the conversation. Thank you.
